VTV.vn - Do Van Chien has been named President of the Vietnamese Fatherland Front (VFF), replacing Tran Thanh Man, who was recently elected Vice Chairman of the National Assembly.

Speaking at a ceremony to assume the new role on April 12, Chien, a former chairman of the Government Committee for Ethnic Affairs, stated this is a great honour but also a heavy responsibility.

He vowed to dedicate himself to the job and give all his efforts to fulfilling the duties assigned to him.

According to the new VFF President, the front first needs to continue effectively implementing its duty regarding the elections for the National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 tenure.

On the occasion, Chien called on all the Vietnamese people, both at home and abroad to uphold the tradition of solidarity and actively respond to patriotic movements in order to realise the aspiration of a wealthy and strong country.

Chien was born in 1962 in the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang.

Prior to becoming the VFF President, he has held various posts, including Chairman of the Tuyen Quang People’s Committee, Secretary of the Yen Bai Party Committee and Chairman of the Government Committee for Ethnic Affairs.
