VTV.vn - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the 29th Foreign Affairs Summit in the capital of Hanoi today.

The event gathered Vietnamese heads of missions in over 100 countries and territories. Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was also present at the meeting.

Speaking of the road ahead, the party chief requested that Vietnamese diplomats continue to build on the past success, predict future global issues and contribute to building a stronger and more prosperous Vietnam.

Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 185 countries and territories and delegated diplomatic representatives in 96 countries and multilateral organisations globally. As Vietnam is integrating into a rapidly changing and increasingly complicated world, the country also faces a wide range of diplomatic challenges.

So far, Vietnam has established comprehensive and strategic partnerships with 25 countries. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Phạm Bình Minh said the major task of Vietnamese diplomacy in the coming time is to strengthen current relations to take advantage of any international resources to contribute to developing and protecting the country.

The summit will run until August 26th.
