The project is currently in the stages of clearing the land and ensuring compensation and resettlement for previous residents of the area. So far, the compensation and resettlement process has been implemented for 5,000 households consisting of around 15,000 people.
The Deputy Prime Minister praised the efforts of Dong Nai province in carrying out the project and urged them to maintain the schedule. According to the plan, the construction of the Long Thanh Airport is expected to begin in June 2020 and will enter the first phase of usage by 2025. The Long Thanh Airport is expected to be a point of transfer for the region and the globe, as well as will ease the current traffic load at Tan Son Nhat international airport in Ho Chi Minh City.
