VTV.vn - The Vietnamese cyclo is ranked among the top 30 unusual modes of transport around the world, according to the website Boredpanda.com.

Through the decades since its invention, the cyclo has become a sight unique to both Vietnam and, more particularly, its capital city, Hanoi.

Appearing in Hanoi first in 1939, the cyclo was a popular vehicle for Hanoians during the 20th century. Today, it has become an important part of Vietnamese culture. Although no longer used for daily activities, the cyclo is widely used in Vietnam's booming tourism industry. Sightseeing in the streets of Hanoi's famous Old Quarter while enjoying the slow pace of a cyclo has left a lasting impression in the hearts of many foreign tourists.

Currently there are 4 companies with 263 cyclos licensed to operate on the streets of Hanoi. As well as being an eco-friendly mode of transport, cyclos have created jobs for many local residents.

Cyclo associations are becoming more professional, helping to raise the quality of service and creating a unique image which attracts tourists from all over the world.

The sounds of the cyclo have left a strong impression in the memories of many Hanoians and foreigners alike. This unusual three-wheeled vehicle is not only a typical feature of the capital city’s culture, but also a symbol of Vietnam.
