Visitors flocked to historic sites in Hue city on August 19 as free admission was offered to mark the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2).

The Hue Monuments Conservation Centre announced free entry for all Vietnamese citizens on August 19 and September 2, with opening hours from 6 am to 5:30 pm.

On the morning of August 19, streams of visitors began arriving early at the Imperial City of Hue (Dai Noi). The centre deployed staff to guide tourists through the site.

For many Vietnamese visitors, the initiative carries special meaning as the nation prepares to commemorate the historic anniversaries.

Le Thi Ly, a 51-year-old teacher from Quang Tri province, travelled with her family to Hue early in the morning. The family joined visitors at the Imperial Citadel of Hue on August 19, saying their trip was meaningful as the country marks the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day.

They hoped the younger generation could learn more about the site’s historic role, particularly the abdication of Emperor Bao Dai on August 30, 1945, which marked the end of the monarchy and the start of a new era.

The festive atmosphere in Hue also drew attention from foreign tourists. Francois, a French visitor, noted the excitement surrounding the national celebrations and the vibrant traditional dress on display, alongside the peaceful setting by the Perfume River.

In addition to the Imperial City, other iconic sites such as the royal tombs of Tu Duc, Khai Dinh and Minh Mang, Thien Mu Pagoda, Quoc Hoc School, Truong Tien Bridge and the riverside landscapes also drew large crowds.

Hue has recorded strong tourism growth this year. In the first seven months of 2025, the city welcomed over 4 million visitors, up 71% year-on-year, including more than 1.2 million international arrivals (up 41%). Tourism revenue reached an estimated 7.45 trillion VND (315.5 million USD), a 56% increase compared with the same period in 2024.

As the host of Visit Vietnam Year 2025, Hue is unveiling new products and attractions, further enhancing its profile as a leading cultural and tourism destination both domestically and internationally.
