VTV.vn - Eight people, including two foreign citizens, have been diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the COVID-19 disease in Vietnam during the past 12 hours, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said on April 23 morning.

All of them are imported cases returning from Ukraine, Turkey, Dubai (the United Arab Emirates), and Japan, and were placed in quarantine as soon as they arrived.

One of them, an Indian expert, 34, boarded flight QR970 from his home country to Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport on April 18.

Another patient, a Turkish woman, 31, also took flight TK6086 to fly to HCM City on April 14.

All the patients tested positive during their stay in the concentrated quarantine facilities, thus posing no risk to the community, said the MoH.

Vietnam has brought under control the recent coronavirus outbreak in the community after the virus recurred in Hai Duong province three months ago. No new locally transmitted cases have been detected during the past few weeks.

However, relevant agencies have constantly confirmed infections returning from epidemic hit countries like the US, Russia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Philippines and India.

Vietnam has so far recorded 2,824 coronavirus cases, including 2,490 recoveries.

The number of deaths caused vby COVID-19 and related illnesses remains at 35.
