A conference to boost Vietnam's shrimp sector took place in Ca Mau Province this morning. It was chaired by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung. The purpose of the conference was to find ways to increase the country's shrimp exports to three times higher than its current level.

Leaders of nearly 30 provinces and cities and more than 50 businesses and cooperative farms attended the event. Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc disagreed with the proposed goal for shrimp exports to reach 10 billion USD by 2030. According to the Prime Minister, this target was still too low and should be reached by 2025. Minh Phu Shrimp Corporation alone could reach the target of 2 billion USD from shrimp exports by 2021. For this reason, the PM requested all ministries, local authorities and businesses to be more determined in achieving a higher goal.

Vietnam has many advantages in developing the shrimp sector due to the Mekong Delta's saltwater intrusion, a condition that's great for raising shrimp. Moreover, the consumption of shrimp is not banned in any religions and there haven't been any restrictions in the shrimp market, which is why it still has a high potential for further growth in the future.
