Condolences continue to pour in over passing of President Tran Dai Quang

VTV.vn - Many heads of state and government from foreign countries, and Overseas Vietnamese associations continued to send their condolences to the Party, State, Government and people of Vietnam over the passing away of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Tran Dai Quang, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On September 24, the Special Envoy of Cambodia King Norodom Sihamoni visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Phnom Penh to convey the King’s letter of condolences to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong.

In the letter, the King affirmed that the passing of President Tran Dai Quang is “a loss of a prominent and valuable leader of the Vietnamese nation and people, who had made positive contributions to the construction and development of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam”.

“The Queen Mother, Cambodian people and I would like to extend our sympathy to the family of the President and the fraternal Vietnamese nation and people,” he wrote.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has sent his condolences to Acting President Dang Thi Thinh on the passing away of President Tran Dai Quang. In his message, President Widodo sent his deepest condolences to the Government and people of Vietnam. In his letter, he expressed his regret not to be able to go to Vietnam to attend the funeral of the President, adding that he had assigned the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs to be his Special Envoy to pay tribute to the Vietnamese State leader on his behalf. The Indonesian President also reaffirmed that the Government and people of Indonesia would always share and stand side by side with the Vietnamese people in this difficult time.

Japanese Emperor Akihito has also extended a message of condolences on the Vietnamese President’s passing away to Acting President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh.

* Sympathy messages sent to the Vietnamese Party and State leaders and the people of Vietnam, as well as the relatives of late President Tran Dai Quang, also came from leaders from various countries as followed:

(i) Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, sent a letter of condolence to Acting President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh.

(ii) Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome, sent his condolence to Acting President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh.

(iii) Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe conveyed their condolences to Acting President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

(iv) King of Saudi Arabia Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Defence, Muhammad Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, sent their condolences to Acting President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh.

(v) President of Israel Reuven Rivlin cabled a letter of condolence to Acting President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh.

(vi) Presidents of Guinea-Bissau Jose Mario Vaz sent a sympathy message to Acting President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh.

(vii) Palestinian President and Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), Mahmoud Abbas, and Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hadallah sent their letters of condolences to General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

(viii) President of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Kim Yong-nam, extended his condolences to Acting Vietnamese President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh.

* S. Sudhakar Reddy, the head of the Communist Party of India (CPI)’s national council; Lautaro Carmona Soto, Secretary-General of the Communist Party of Chile (PCCh), and PCCh President Guillermo Teillier Del Valle; and Aleksandar Banjanac, the General Secretary of the New Communist Party of Yugoslavia (NKPJ), sent cables of condolences to the Party, State and people of Vietnam, as well as the family of late President Tran Dai Quang.

* Peru’s Foreign Minister Néstor Popolizio Bardales sent a letter of condolences to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.

* Learning about the passing of President Tran Dai Quang, the Association of Vietnamese People in Thailand’s Udon Thani and the Anam-nikaya in Thailand extended their condolence letters to the Vietnamese Party, Government and people.
