China demands release of Huawei executive

Foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told to reporters on Thursday that the Chinese government wants Canadian officials to reveal the reasons behind Meng Wanzhou's arrest. He also said Meng's legal rights must be ensured, adding that neither Canadian nor American officials had so far responded to China's concerns. US authorities are investigating whether Chinese tech giant Huawei violated U.S. trade sanctions against Iran.
