“Blue Skies over the Highlands” to Follow “The Other Side of the City” on VTV1

A press conference to introduce Blue Skies over the Highlands was held in Hanoi on the afternoon of July 1. The event was attended by Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan, Chief   of the Ministry of Public Security's Office; Major General Doan Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of   the Ministry's Department of Internal Securityy; and other Ministry  leaders . Representing VTV were Mr. Le Manh, Director of the VTV Film Center, along with the series' directors, actors, and production crew.

During the event, Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan spoke about  the People's Security Force has played a core role in protecting national security, the Party, the political system, and the people  over the past 80 years. To honor those quiet contributions, the Ministry of Public Security has worked with VTV's Television Film Center to produce Blue Skies over the Highlands. Inspired by a real case in the Central Highlands in 2001, the series portrays heroes of the People's Armed Forces through an artistic lens.

Set in a modern context and aligned with new policies and directions, the story highlights the security force's key responsibilities in protecting the nation. Through the series, the Ministry of Public Security hopes viewers will gain a deeper understanding of the People's Security Force’s work. The film also sends a clear message: peace does not come by chance. Rather, it is built through 80 years of quiet, persistent, and uncompromising struggle.

Against the backdrop of the Central Highlands, a land of raw natural beauty and complex social, ethnic, religious, and security issues, Blue Skies over the Highlands  chronicles the  the fight to protect  local villages'  peace and stability  against schemes that seek to incite division and weaken national unity. The story begins when a retired police general returns to the place where he once served. Amid the mountains and forests of To Roi, memories of difficult years resurface, revealing a period when the village's peace was threatened by forces that weaponized distrust, limited awareness, and deep woundswithin the community.

One of the most compelling aspects of Blue Skies over the Highlands is  its portrayal of the conflict between good and evil  as anything but  simple. Each character carries personal conflicts, wounds, and choices  to make. Characters such as A Lang, Lok, Y Lien, Gia Rin, and A Dui not only represent the Central Highlands village community, but also reflect deeper struggles between the past and the present, trust and doubt, and unity versus the risk of division caused by forces seeking to exploit public sentiment.

Beyond its  relevant political and social themes, Blue Skies over the Highlands also stands out for its large-scale production. Scenes  were filmed across the majestic Central Highlands amid harsh weather and difficult terrain. Directed by Meritorious Artist Nguyen Mai Hien, the series brings together a strong cast loved by audiences, including Meritorious Artist Hoang Hai, Ha Viet Dung, and Xuan Phuc, as well as newcomers  such as Luan Nguyen, Thuy Nga, Hoang Ngan, The Manh, and Ngoc Anh.

The production received close cooperation from units under the Ministry of Public Security, including the Department of Political Affairs, the Department of Internal Security, the Department of Economic Security, and the Gia Lai Provincial Police. Their support helped create a series that is realistic, professionally grounded, and emotionally rich.

Marking the 80th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the People's Security Force, Blue Skies over the Highlands is expected to be more than an engaging television drama. It aims to spread the meaningful values of responsibility, dedication, and the quiet sacrifices of those who work day and night to protect the country's peace.
