The news was announced on March 24 by the Vietnam News Agency’s Sports and Culture Newspaper, the awards’ organiser.
The addition of the new category is an effort from the organising board to update and support the current trend in todays’ music as music videos have become popular and receive much enthusiastic appreciation from the public.
This year’s award will also have seven other categories as usual, which honour the best song, new artist, album, programme, music event, musician and singer of the year.
Nominations for each category were also announced by the organising board on the occasion.
Up for ‘Music Video of the Year’ are ‘Buong Doi Tay Nhau Ra’ (Let Go of Each Other’s Arm) performed by Son Tung M-TP and directed by Dinh Ha Uyen Thu; ‘Mona Lisa’ performed by Van Mai Huong and directed by Tien M. Nguyen; ‘Ngay Mai’ (Tomorrow) performed by Toc Tien and directed by Dinh Ha Uyen Thu; and ‘That Bat Ngo’ (So Amazing) performed by Truc Nhan and directed by Nhu Dang.
The ‘Song of the Year’ sees the competition among ‘Am Tham Ben Em’ (Silently Beside You) composed by Son Tung M-TP, ‘My Everything’ by Tien Tien, ‘So Amazing’ by Truc Nhan and ‘Toi Thay Hoa Vang Tren Co Xanh’ (I See Yellow Flowers on Green Grass) by Chau Dang Khoa.
Nominees for ‘New Artist of the Year’ include Vietnam Idol 2015 winner Trong Hieu; second runner-up of the The Remix 2015 competition, Issac; young talented composer and singer Tien Tien; and well-known DJ Touliver.
Being considered for the ‘Album of the Year’ are ‘Bai Ca Khong Quen’ (Unforgettable Song) by Duc Tuan, ‘Pha’ (Destruction) by Pham Anh Khoa, ‘Streets Rhythm by Ha Anh Tuan, and‘Bong Toi Jazz’ (Jazz in Darkness) – a joint product of Giang Son, Tran Thu Ha and Tung Duong.
Duc Hung, Giang Son, Vo Thien Thanh and Quoc Trung were nominated for ‘Musician of the Year’ while ‘Singer of the Year’ competitors are Tung Duong, Son Tung M-TP, Tran Thu Ha and Hong Nhung.
The “Giai Dieu Tu Hao' (Melodies of Pride), ‘Bai Hat Viet’ (Vietnamese Songs), ‘The Remix’, and ‘Monsoon Music Festival 2015’ are four nominees for ‘Best Music Event’.
For the ‘Programme of the Year’, nominees are ‘Cua So Am Nhac – Bai Hat Ru Mua Dong’ (Winter’s Lullaby), ‘Hong Nhung: Pho A Pho Oi’ (Dear Streets) live concert, ‘Master of Symphony’, ‘Thap Ky Hoan Ca’ (A Decade of Singing), and ‘M-TP Ambition’.
Winners of the awards will be chosen by around 100 reporters and journalists nationwide who specialise in Vietnamese music. The winners will be announced and honoured at an awards ceremony scheduled on April 23 at FLC Sam Son Resort in Thanh Hoa province.
