The Ban Flower Festival 2023 and the Cultural, Sports and Tourism Festival of Dien Bien province opened at the May 7th Square on Sunday in Dien Bien Phu City to celebrate the 69th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory as well as the 114th founding anniversary of the province.
The festival, taking place from March 10 to 13, featured various activities, including the space re-enacting an upland periodic market, an exhibition on local cultural traditions and cultural and tourism products, folk games, sports competitions, a culinary contest, a street parade, to name but a few.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Le Thanh Do, Deputy Secretary of the Dien Bien provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, affirmed that the Ban (Bauhinia) Flower Festival 2023 and the 7th Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival for ethnic groups in the province are events highlighting cultural identity of ethnic groups in the Northwest, contributing to preserving and promoting unique values of 19 ethnic groups in Dien Bien province.
The programs opened with a special art performance themed "Fragrance of the Northwest", which showcased the beauty of the Northwest and Dien Bien in particular, as well as people's pride in the historical and traditional land. The Ban Flower Festival is being held for the first time after a 3-year hiatus.
The events offered the province an opportunity to popularize its natural beauty, culture and tourism potential to people across the country and international friends. It was an occasion for the province to expand cooperation with other provinces, cities and enterprise communities to soon turn Dien Bien’s tourism into a spearhead economic sector.
