Bac Ninh officially puts first waste-to-power plant into operation
Delegates pressed the button to officially commence the factory’s operation.
VTV.vn - Bac Ninh Province's first high-tech waste-to-power plant, located in Phu Lang Commune, Que Vo Town, was put into officially operation on November 1.

With investment from Green Star Environment Company Limited, the high-tech waste-to-power plant has a designed waste-processing capacity of 800 tonnes per day, generating a total of 6.1 MWh of electricity.

The total investment is about 45 million USD.

This is the pioneering private waste incineration plant in Vietnam, the result of a comprehensive partnership between Green Star Environment Company Limited, Chosun Refractories ENG Company Limited, and SK Ecoplant Group (the Republic of Korea) in the field of developing waste incineration technology to generate electricity and deploying artificial intelligence solutions in waste incineration.

The factory operation is expected to soon become a pioneering model for exchanging carbon certificates according to the Paris agreement and the bilateral agreement between the RoK and Vietnam.

Leaders of Bac Ninh Province present flowers and congratulate the factory on officially coming into operation.

As part of a series of investment promotion activities between the Governments of Vietnam and the RoK, the project was started in July 2020. Construction investment was completed in the second quarter of 2022, and the plant was successfully connected to the power grid on the national grid in August 2022.

Now that the project has been put into operation, officially contributing to environmental protection of Bac Ninh province, it is capable of providing the locality with about 40 million kWh per year.

According to Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Ninh Province Dao Quang Khai, Bac Ninh is facing problems related to environmental pollution, especially domestic solid waste pollution.

Statistics show that about 1,100 tonnes of domestic waste are generated in Bac Ninh each day, and the figure is expected to rise by 7-10% each year.
