Not all forms of “darkness” come from the night. They may be blindness, illness and pain, or the hardship experienced by people who are left without a place to call home in a crowded city.
The August edition of Kind Deeds introduces individuals who have moved beyond their own hardships to become a source of light for the community. Visually impaired athlete Vu Tien Manh has achieved impressive results on the track and helped promote running within the visually impaired community, despite his own limitations. Violist Nguyet Thu once performed in hospital corridors while still wearing her patient gown. She has since continued bringing music to patients and medical staff. Tran Minh Quan has spent more than 12 years travelling through the city at night with the Night Charity Group, offering support to homeless people.

From running tracks and hospital corridors to city streets after dark, each of these individuals has faced a different challenges. What they have in common is their decision not to remain in the darkness, but to keep moving forward and become a source of support, hope and warmth for those in need.
