They will not have to wait as the aid starts today, March 8th, and is regarded as a meaningful programme for HIV patients and the health sector in general. ARV drugs, which are used to control HIV infection, used to be given to Vietnamese patients free by international organisations.
However the aid was cut in 2017 as Vietnam is no longer a poor country.
Over the past two years, patients had to pay a part of ARVs price, but the drugs are now free again from today. 48,000 patients of HIV/AIDS are expected to receive free ARVs in 2019.
