VTV.vn - An arts programme was held in Hanoi on August 15 in celebration of the Vu Lan Festival – a Buddhist tradition and cultural activity aimed at honouring and showing gratitude to parents and ancestors.

The event was co-organised by Tuoi Tre Thu Do (Capital’s Youth) Newspaper, Oscar Media Joint Stock Company, and Hanoi Radio Television.

Titled ‘On Nghia Sinh Thanh’ (Grateful for Parents), the 120-minute programme featured performances in various artforms, including music, dance, poetry, and stage plays.

The event also included touching documentary films on charity activities to care for heroic Vietnamese mothers, lonely elders, and policy beneficiaries in Hanoi, and the provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Quang Binh.

Notably, the audience at the event listened to the sharing of Team Lee – a group of youngsters who use technology to restore portraits of fallen soldiers for free; and members of ‘Ha Noi Chung Tay’ (Sharing hand of Hanoi) – a youth project on caring for the homeless in Hanoi.

On the occasion, the organisers presented 30 gifts and scholarships to disadvantaged students in Hanoi.

Vu Lan Festival is celebrated annually on the 15th day of the seventh month in the lunar calendar. It has been widely observed in Vietnam to express respect, love, and honour towards parents.
