New Stories

Keeping Promises - Connecting Rivers is a special art program featuring revolutionary songs that reflect the indomitable fighting spirit of our military and people throughout the struggle for independence. It interweaves historical documentaries and the activities of the Southern Security Forces across different periods of the nation's struggles. Alongside the primary narrative, dynamic artistic performances, including songs and reenactments, will transport viewers back to the challenging but proud days of Vietnam's security forces during the two resistance wars. The program will consist of three segments: River of Ambition, River of Fire, and River of Aspiration. It is scheduled to broadcast live at 20:10 on July 27 on VTV8, VTV's digital platforms, and some local stations.

Being an annual event, the most significant challenge for the production team of Keeping Promises - Connecting Rivers is to present new stories fresh  to the audience. Director Truong Vu Quynh, Head of   Documentary Film   at VTV8, said, "Refreshing the program is a clear challenge. Fortunately, as a regular program, we have more time for preparation".

This year, the team went to Tay Ninh in February to conduct preliminary research on  locations and gather information for the script. From March until now, the team has made 4-5 such trips, involving various roles such as content direction, production organization, and editing. They plan to continue these trips until mid-July, right before the program starts.

Journalist Nguyen Lam Thanh, Director of VTV8 and General Director of the program, stated, "The spirit of this year's program continues to honor the values and sacrifices of the Vietnamese police generations for the country's independence and development. 'Connecting Rivers' is set in the Security Department Memorial Site - Central Southern Bureau, Tay Ninh Province, which is associated with the famous Vam Co River in music".

"Connecting Rivers" symbolically represents the connection of various generations of Vietnamese security forces who gather at the Central Southern Bureau's base, carrying memories of different rivers from all over the country. Through this approach, the program aims to tell vibrant personal stories tied to significant national events during the heroic years of the nationwide struggle.

Meeting Historical Witnesses

According to the production team, they are still in the process of selecting and finding meaningful stories for the program. The goal is to use representative stories to highlight broader issues related to a proud period of the Vietnamese security forces in the struggle for national reunification.

Director Truong Vu Quynh shared, "The main task of the Security Department - Central Southern Bureau during this period was very heavy. They were the core force on political and military fronts, protecting the bases and headquarters, coordinating with armed forces to fight the enemy in strategic areas, and preparing for the general offensive to liberate the South and unify the country. It was a challenging period, but the witnesses who went through these hardships still exuded an unshakable faith in ultimate victory. The production team strives to convey this special spirit through this meaningful program".

With the spirit of remembering and honoring the sacrifices of the Vietnamese security forces for an independent and prosperous Vietnam, Keeping Promises aims to reach out to a wide audience, including the younger generation.  One of the program's missions is to help young people understand history and develop the right attitude towards. A comprehensive art program that includes historical narratives might be an appropriate choice.

In Keeping Promises, alongside historical documentaries with significant political content, there will be dynamic and artistically rich performances, songs, and reenactments. The program's music director is composer Le Minh Son. As a special feature, the artists and bands are required to play and sing live, bringing the most authentic emotions to the viewers.

Keeping Promises is scheduled to broadcast live at 20:10 on July 27 on VTV8 and VTV's digital platforms.
