The forum noted that increased economic activities may pose higher risks of natural disasters. Therefore, disaster prevention measures should be integrated into socio-economic development plans of all levels, sectors and localities.
Recommendations for APEC economies given at the forum include the promotion of science and technology and co-operative mechanisms to develop an effective policy framework to enhance disaster risk management. Participants also agreed to submit major recommendations to APEC leaders on fostering inter-regional co-operation and technological innovation for more effective responses to natural disasters.
