Another critically ill COVID-19 patient discharged from hospital

VTV.vn - A COVID-19 patient who experienced life-threatening illness has recovered miraculously thanks to the treatment from doctors at the Hanoi-based National Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

The patient’s discharge today (June 16) marks the second case with severe underlying conditions out of 11 individuals discharged from the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital during the latest resurgence of COVID-19.

The 57-year-old from Lap Thach, Vinh Phuc province has a history of cerebrovascular issues in 2019 and was hospitalised for COVID-19 on May 7.

The patient had to rely on invasive ventilation and dialysis since May 16. Ten days later, the patient showed signs of recovery.

After negative test results three times in a row, the patient was officially discharged from the hospital today, June 16.

The latest recovery brings the total to 4,543, while the death toll remains at 61.

This noon, Vietnam reported 176 new COVID-19 cases, comprised of 174 domestic and two imported.

According to the Ministry of Health, of the locally transmitted infections, Bac Giang logged 128 cases, Ho Chi Minh City 35, Bac Ninh eight, Ha Tinh two and Nghe An one.

Up to 173 cases were detected in quarantine sites or sealed off areas.

The national tally has reached 11,480, including 9,831 local cases. The number of COVID-19 cases since April 27, when the latest outbreak began, is 8,261.

Among active patients undergoing treatment at medical establishments, 343 have tested negative for coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 once, 99 twice and 55 thrice.

Twenty-four provinces have gone 14 consecutive days without any new cases.

Thai Nguyen province has taken samples from nearly 90,000 workers in local industrial parks. All tested negative for SARS-CoV-2.

During the latest outbreak, Thai Nguyen had three cases of infection, all of whom have recovered. The province has not had any new cases for 18 days.

After detecting the second COVID-19 case in Hung Dung ward (Vinh City) late on June 15, Nghe An province's Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control decided to blockade three blocks in Hung Dung ward. Tracing work was sped up, while around 1,600 samples have been collected.

Trung Vuong Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City has been transformed to treat COVID-19 patients from June 16 as an effort to have 3,500 beds dedicated to serve the treatment. Accordingly, the 1,000-bed Trung Vuong hospital is ready to receive and treat positive patients.

Previously, the municipal Department of Health converted the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases and Cu Chi District Hospital into a hospital specialising in treating COVID-19 patients. The HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases is providing treatment for 126 patients, while the Cu Chi COVID-19 Treatment Hospital has received 192 others after only four days of operation.
