The donation drive was initiated by Dr. Edward Kondrot - an ophthalmologist from Hawaii. He wanted to help bring vision back to ten Vietnamese people through corneal transplantations.
Dr. Kondrot said he was surprised to find out that Vietnam has a shortage of corneas and the program will be continued. There will be five corneal transplants in Hue.
Five corneas were transferred to Hanoi and handed back to the National Eye Bank.
