On Tuesday morning, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the Australian Embassy in Vietnam introduced the project titled "WE RISE Together" to create equal market access for women by diversifying suppliers through gender-responsive procurement in Vietnam.
It's estimated that women-owned businesses account for only 1% of public and private procurement spending. Women are more likely to run small businesses and perform low-skilled and low-paying jobs.
The 'WE RISE Together' project will help tackle gender inequality and lobby the public and private sectors in Vietnam to improve procurement policies. Vietnamese businesses that lead gender equality promotion in the workplace, market and community also received the UN Women's awards.
