VTV.vn - An 80-year-old man of Ho Chi Minh City had died of COVID-19 and other underlying illnesses, the Ministry of Health said on June 27.

The patient suffered from hypertension, gout, drug-induced cushing's syndrome, according to doctors.

He tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on June 10 after getting infection from one of his relatives living in the same house.

The patient was transferred to the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases on diagnosis of pneumonia caused by COVID-19. Showing high temperatures and shortness of breath, he relied on mechanical ventilation, dialysis, and antibiotics.

Despite doctors’ intensive care, the elderly patient passed away on June 26.

This is the 40th COVID-19 related death Vietnam has recorded during the fresh coronavirus outbreak since late April 2021, and the 75th death since last year. Most of the cases suffered from underlying health conditions.
