VTV.vn - Strong export growth and a better-than-expected trade surplus were the notable highlights of Vietnam's export sector, especially when the world economy was rife with numerous difficulties over the past year.

Trade turnover reached 482.23 billion USD, of which exports reached 244.7 billion USD, an increase of 13.8% compared to 2017.

The country also registered an all-time high trade surplus of 7.2 billion US dollars. In 2018, Vietnam had 9 items with an export turnover of over 5 billion USD and 5 items reached over 10 billion USD. The turnover of agricultural, forestry and aquatic exports exceeded 40 billion USD for the first time, showing a great effort of the Vietnamese agricultural sector despite strong competition in the world market.

It's worth noting that for the first time ever, the domestic economic sector recorded a higher growth rate of export turnover compared to the foreign-invested sector.
