The date was announced by the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Commission for External Relations during a meeting on December 22nd in Hanoi. The congress will focus on promoting nation’s status and socialist democracy; maintaining peace and stability; and the country’s modernisation efforts. 1,510 participants are expected to attend the congress, representing 4.5 million party members. The congress will elect a new party politburo and secretariat which will pave way for the election of the country's new leadership. The Communist Party of Vietnam has extended an invitation to embassies and representatives of international organisations in Vietnam to attend the event.
