VTV.vn - Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Terminal (TC-HICT), based in Hai Phong City, received its 500,000th TEU on October 22, equivalent to about 12.5 million tonnes of cargo in 2020.

The handling of 12.5 million tonnes of cargo in the first ten months of this year is considered an impressive figureamid the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially given that the seaport was only established about three years ago.

Since its establishment in May 2018, TC-HICT has made great strides. The terminal runs 10 service routes per week, including three service routes across the Pacific to the US, two routes to India, and five routes of intra-Asia.

TC-HICT is a joint venture between Saigon Newport Corporation, Japan’s MITSUI O.S.K Lines Ltd. and Itochu Group, and Chinese Taiwan’s Wan Hai Lines Ltd.

TC-HICT is the largest deep-water container terminal in Northern Vietnam, with two 750m berths and a 660mturning basin.

The terminal can accommodate container vessels with up to 16,000 TEUs and handle cargo throughput of 1.1 mil TEUs per year.
