This year's theme is “Family-human resource and responsibility on family violence prevention." In Vietnam, one out of three married women experience some form of violence from their husbands. Moreover, domestic violence is not only happening to women, but also to children and the elderly.
Domestic violence is still happening in Vietnam. 36 women in this room have a common reason for being here. They all need mental support from doctors because they have been beaten by their husbands at home.
There are children who have witnessed their fathers beat their mothers. They themselves were also beaten by their fathers. This 60 year-old woman is also a victim of domestic violence. However, the most common way these women deal with it is silence.
"We hope that this national month will help raise people’s awareness about domestic violence. We also hope that this campaign will have an impact on husbands and men", Tran Tuyet Anh - Head of Family department, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism - spoke.
These men used to commit domestic violence to their wives. However, they have changed. Now they are volunteers in a group that fights against domestic violence. Their job is to help other men change their mentalities and habits. These are one of the many efforts for preventing domestic violence in Vietnam.
