Martial arts school fights with everyday tools

VTV.vn - When talking about Vietnamese martial arts, local fighting styles have always traditionally been based on rapid movement and flexibility. One of the most prominent factors is the creative use of techniques and weapons.

Hong Quyen Chu Gia, a Vietnamese school of martial arts, is well-known for its creativity in using everyday objects such as walking sticks or umbrellas as fighting tools. Nhat dieu phieu linh, a form of stick fighting using Vietnamese bamboo poles as weapons, is a unique technique created by Martial Arts Master Chu Ha. Through his creativity, Master Chu Ha has managed to turn everyday tools such as bamboo pipes, hoes, spades, shovels, and carrying poles into deadly weapons.

Master Chu Ha is the disciple of the late Chinese Martial Arts Master Su Zi Guang, who was well-known for his magician-like stick fighting style all over Guangxi, China in the late 1920s. Master Ha has, for many times, represented Vietnam in many martial arts performances around the world.

He has maintained a lifelong preoccupation with simplifying martial arts techniques for the ordinary Vietnamese farmers. So far, he has created many new and easy-to-learn techniques and taught them to hundreds of people.

"The principles of Hong Quyen Chu Gia are different from other martial arts schools. Here, we aim to simplify the techniques and turn everything around us into weapons. It’s great for self-defence and everyone can learn them", Master Chu Ha said.

For his creativity and innovation in the teachings of martial arts, Hong Quyen Chu Gia has been recognised by the Hanoi Martial Art Association as an official martial arts school. Rather than competitions, Hong Quyen Chu Gia focuses more than the fun and life balance, as everyone can learn the techniques and the weapons can be anything.
