VTV.vn - A group of Vietnamese musicians are exploring the fusion between jazz and Vietnamese folk music. They are members of Phu Sa Band.

Dating back to the late 19th century and the US city of New Orleans, jazz continues to intrigue audiences internationally thanks to its highly talented musicians and the adventurous improvisational techniques that characterise the genre.

Phu Sa Band has four members: Quyen Thien Dac, Le Quoc Hung, Nguyen Van Quy and Dao Van Trung. The band has worked together for four years on this fusion between jazz and Vietnamese folk music.

Vietnamese folk music has many types, ranging from Xam, a popular genre played by the blind in the north to Tuong, Cheo, and Cai Luong.

The Artists-Jazz Corner provides a venue for artists like the Phu Sa Band to execute their creative ideas. It is also a venue for listeners who love this fusion.

Starting as jazz players, the artists also have a love for traditional Vietnamese music. Incorporating jazz and domestic folk music, the band give their take on this form of jazz fusion.
