The meat came from pigs, cows, goats and rabbits.
Nearly 170kg of the meat emitted a foul odour.
Binh Thuy Ward, owner of the shop on Le Hong Phong Street, admitted to the police that the meat was bought at very cheap rates in HCM City and transported to the southern city of Can Tho via coach.
The meat was then sold to restaurants in the Ninh Kieu and Cai Rang districts for VND130,000 (US$5.7) per kilogramme. The restaurants cooked the meat for their customers.
The city police said the owner of the shop had failed to present any quarantine papers for the meat.
