Policemen reported that when they were patrolling Highway 1A section crossing Sen Thuy Commune, Le Thuy District, they discovered a passenger bus transporting a huge amount of cattle meat of unclear origins.
Lt. Colonel Trần Đinh Hà, chief of the police team, said the driver of bus transporting the smuggled goods was Ho Si Quy, a citizen of Nghe An Province's Quynh Thanh Commune.
The meat was being transported from the north to the south for consumption, he said.
The driver did not present any document to prove the origin of the cattle meat.
The provincial environmental policemen and veterinary department officials took possession of the meat and would deal with it according to the law.
On Monday, Binh Phuoc southern province's Bu Dop District market management team in co-ordination with the district's veterinary centre discovered 200kg of cattle meat of unclear origins at Thanh Binh market.
Owner of the bad-quality meat was a local woman, Le Thi Len.
She had been purchasing the cattle meat from local slaughter houses and markets since June, 2014. The meat was in stock as it could not be marketed, she said.
An official of the veterinary centre said the entire quantity of the meat smelled stale and was contaminated.
HCM City's market management department reported this morning it had seized 100 tonnes of sodium glutamate imported from Thailand and China, at a house in District 12's An Phu Dong Ward.
Saigon Ve Wong Ltd. Company, which has a head office at the house, was the owner of the goods.
The department said the company had no production line and only distributed illegally-imported sodium glutamate in small packs. These packs, with an A-one trademark from Viet Nam, were sold in the market.
According to the department, the wrapper on the packaging was fake. Investigations are underway.
