VTV.vn - French mass retailer Casino Group officially sold its Big C Vietnam business to Thai conglomerate Central Group for 1.05 billion US dollars over the four day holiday in Vietnam.

Discussions were on-going to 2015 when the Casino Group announced major financial restructuring, which included the selling of Big C grocery chain in Vietnam. Thai investors now own 4 supermarket chains in Vietnam and nearly 70% of the country’s retail market.

This will pave the way for more exported products from Thailand to enter Vietnam, especially given the 90% cut in tariffs thanks to the ASEAN Economic Community. Vietnamese firms are facing significant challenges due to increased competition from experienced foreign-owned retailers.
