Flood-stricken Bac Kan recovers
VTV.vn - Continual heavy rainfall over the past few days has isolated many remote areas. The next report takes a look at local people’s lives and rescue efforts in the northern province of Bac Kan.

Due to heavy rainfall, the two kilometre road leading to Lủng Pảng Commune, BacKan Province has been flooded by up to 4 to 5 metres of water. It took over 1 hour travelling by a raft to reach 12 households in this commune. Over 10 hectares of corn and rice have been destroyed and the 47 local people are living without electricity, while suffering clean water and food shortages.

Bac Kan’s authorities have paid regular visits to the commune, providing local people with rice, instant noodles and other necessities. They have also planned measures to improve travel safety, health, and environmental sanitation, while preparing to help local people resume production.

Due to the flood, it’s likely that diseases will appear. So, please prepare and take a good care of everyone, especially the elderly and children. We we’ll provide more medicines for common diseases such as fevers, diarrhoea, or flu... A nurse will come here to the commune to help if needed.

Locals have described the flood as the most destructive since 1992. With rain still falling, it could take another week for the water to finally recede.
