Before attending the ceremony, PM Nguyen Tan Dung visited VTV's new facility, which is one of the most modern complexes in the region. 45 years ago, on Sep. 7, 1970, from a small recording studio at Voice of Viet Nam (VOV), with some home-made equipment, the very first television broadcast was successfully put on air. For 45 years, especially during the last 5 years, VTV has achieved several breakthroughs. VTV has invested more than 467 million USD to develop new infrastructure and adopt new technologies. It is hoped that by 2020, VTV match its neighbouring broadcasters in the Asia-Pacific region in term of technology and professionalism. VTV plans to construct a modern studio complex and 636-metre television tower in the coming year. In his address, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam asked VTV to keep pace with modern communications trends to broadcast the latest information to the public.
"We highly appreciate the efforts made by VTV in introducing the images of Vietnam to the world as well as in promoting Vietnamese culture and people. We hope that VTV will have more interesting programmes, which are both educational and humane, promoting the good as well as criticising the bad. We congratulate VTV on their new financially autonomous structure. They have strengthened their infrastructure, improved the working conditions and incomes for workers and contributed to the state budget", said Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam expressed his belief that with its 45-year history, VTV will become a multi-media provider with responsible, firm political awareness, and a dynamic, and creative staff. Also on this occasion, VTV was given the Labour Order for its contributions to society
