VTV.vn - People in five cities and provinces will be able to pay traffic fines online from March 13, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung has announced.

At a conference reviewing online public services on the national public service portal on March 10, Dung said this was among many e-payment services on the portal which have been completed and are ready for the trial.

Major General Le Xuan Duc, deputy director of the Ministry of Public Security’s Traffic Police Department, said people in Hanoi, HCM City, Hai Phong, Da Nang and Binh Thuan can pay fines at http://dichvucong.gov.vn.

Previously, traffic violators had to go to traffic police offices to get penalty tickets and then pay their fines at treasury offices. Police will return their revoked driving licences or seized vehicles at police stations after a certain amount of time.

The new scheme simplifies matters, allowing people to pay fines online instead of going to treasury offices.

Duc said paying only took between three and 10 minutes. People needed to enter their personal information and the penalty ticket number to search for their violation record and pay fines online through their banks.

The ministry will review the trial and possibly apply the services in other localities in the third quarter.

Speaking at the conference, Dung said other e-payment services such as personal tax payment, collecting registration fees for cars and motorcycles and business tax declaration and payment would also start on March 13.

He asked ministries, sectors and agencies to re-examine the services to ensure their operation.

Dung said the integration of additional services on the national public service portal was important in the context of the novel coronavirus epidemic.

After three months of operation on a trial basis, as of March 9, there were 77,226 accounts registered on the national public service portal and more than 20.9 million visits to find information and services.

The Government’s reporting information system will be launched on March 13 to review the three-month implementation of the portal and to integrate more public services.

Dung said among 20.9 million visits to the portal, the number of businesses using it was still limited. Thus, it is necessary to boost public services involved in tax declaration and customs clearance to increase their participation.
