Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thu said the campaign will contribute to social welfare activities and raise awareness of students in the city.
Volunteers will visit and support Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, policy beneficiaries and families of soldiers in border and island areas, she added.
This year, the campaign comprises six main programmes, including a programme marking the 50th anniversary of the Mau Than Offensive in Spring 1968 and another introducing cultural values and customs of new year celebrations of Vietnam’s ethnic groups as well as other countries.
It also features several programmes for disadvantaged students, children and poor patients in the city, along with soldiers in border and island regions. Participants will also pay visits to the Vietnam Coast Guard Region 4 Command and Tho Chu island of the southern province of Kien Giang.
