VTV.vn - A lomography exhibition themed ‘No to Sorrow’ taken by photographer Maika Elan is set to get underway at the Goethe Institute in Hanoi from January 14 to 28.

Maika Elan’s pictures play around with colours, shades, focus and perspective. They show both the trivial and exceptional scenes from the photographer’s life, and always reflect her optimism and happiness.

On display will be a range of different photographs, from the areas of portrait, fashion and documentary photography.

During the exhibition, Maika Elan will also lead a workshop for young photographers from January 14 to 18.

Maika Elan studied sociology in Hanoi, and began experimenting with a camera in 2008. Her career started as a fashion photographer, before she took up the documentary project ‘The Pink Choice’ in 2010. The project portrays the life of homosexual couples in Vietnam.

It has been published in numerous international and national magazines, and won several awards, amongst others the World Press Photo Award 2013 in Contemporary Issues.

Maika Elan’s first solo exhibition took place in 2012, also at the Goethe-Institute.

Lomography is a style of analog photography, which works with the unpredictable image qualities of cheap cameras, like colour changes and negative effects.
