At the inauguration ceremony, Hanoi city officials stressed that the need for new and improved waste treatment technology was more urgent than ever, to protect the city’s environment and reduce landfills.
With the capacity of 300 tonnes/day the Phuong Đinh waste treatment plant uses incinerating technology from Germany, which can process waste while recovering heat for power generation.
Hanoi produces 7,000 tonnes of household waste a day, dumped in 3 landfill areas in Soc Son, Xuan Son, và Đong Ke. According to environmental experts, if this processing method continues, Hanoi will run out of landfill sites by 2030 meaning the city will need to apply new technology to process waste, a problem likely to continue nationwide.
