Japan approves ballistic missile defense with aegis batteries

VTV.vn - The Cabinet of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Tuesday approved the installation of two land-based Aegis Ashore missile defence systems to defend against North Korea's growing nuclear and missile threats.

Japan government plans to deploy the systems in two places by 2023. Japan said North Korea's nuclear and missile development poses a new level of threat to Japan's security.

Therefore, the government said Japan needs to fundamentally improve its ballistic missile defence abilities to protect the country at all times and in a sustainable manner. The cost of Aegis Ashore system could be about 890 million US dollars. Aegis Ashore is a land-based version of the Aegis combat system developed for warships, is a collection of radars, computers and missiles.
