VTV.vn - At 4:30 a.m. on April 3, 1954, the 102nd Regiment (308th Army) was ordered to hand over the battlefield on the eastern slope of Hill A1 to the 174th Regiment (316th Army), to gather at Muong Phang Forest to strengthen forces.

On the same afternoon, the 312th Army used the 165th Regiment to attack Base 105 (Huguette 6), located not far from the recently destroyed Base 106. The fight lasted until the morning, with Vietnam capturing two-thirds of the base and only destroying a part of the enemy.

After five days of fighting in Phase 2, Vietnam achieved an important victory. In the east, Vietnam captured four strategic hills. In the west, Vietnam captured additional heights 106 and 311. The enemy's area of occupation was narrowed and the force suffered great losses, including three more of their friendly battalions being destroyed. But Vietnam had not yet completed all the set goals, especially since we had not captured Hill A1 - a key goal of this attack.

On the afternoon of April 3, 1954, comrade Hoang Van Thai, Chief of Staff of the Front, summarised the situation of four days and nights of continuous fighting on Hill A1 and reported to the Party Committee and the Front Command. After exchanging opinions with the leaders, General Vo Nguyen Giap, Commander and Secretary of the Front's Party Committee, ordered the units to “temporarily stop fighting from April 4 and maintain the captured position on Hill A1 to continue attacking when ordered.”

Vietnam proposed a cease-fire to France so that both sides could collect their wounded soldiers because 24 hours had passed, but no one had been taken out of Base 106 (Huguette 7).

On the enemy side, during the day, the last unit of the 2nd Battalion, 1st Colonial Parachute Regiment, parachuted into the Central division.

On the battlefield of coordination, on the night of April 3, 1954, the Special Forces of Binh Dinh Province operated in Quy Nhon Town to attack the “Chinese theatre”, resulting in the elimination of more than 200 enemies from the battle.
