Floods leave miners temporarily out of work

VTV.vn - Prolonged rains and floods have forced coal companies in Quang Ninh Province to cease operations. As a result, 30 thousand coal miners and workers are temporarily out of work.

Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group has shifted personnel from flood-stricken mines such as Mong Duong, Quang Hanh, Duong Huy coal companies to other companies. The group has also provided funds to workers. The provincial authorities have granted 5 billion VND or nearly 230 thousand USD to the company to assist their workers. The rains and floods have wreaked havoc on the province’s coal industry, which has occurred losses of 55 million USD.

In the northern province of Quang Ninh, Ha Long City has been receiving increasingly heavy rain for days which has caused landslides in many residential areas; putting hundreds of houses at risk of collapse. Ha Long city has been working to determine the areas at risks to continue evacuations, as well as prepared emergency rescue plans.
