Cuba announces results of municipal elections

Cuba has just completed the Municipal Elections, which is the first step in the process of choosing the successor of President Raul Castro. On Monday local time, the Cuba's National Electoral Commission announced the results of the elections.

More than 7 million Cuban have cast their votes in the Municipal Elections, which will be followed by the elections for the National Assembly. Later on, Cuba's National Assembly will elect the President of the Council of State and President of the Council of Ministers, the positions currently held by President Raul Castro.

Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Vice President of Cuba, is now considered the likely candidate to succeed Raul Castro. Cuba's National Assembly is expected to hold elections for Presidents and Vice Presidents of the Council of State and of the Council of Ministers in February next year.
