After the welcoming ceremony, the Bulgarian Vice President met with Vice President Nguyễn Thị Doan and was received by Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and National Assembly Chairman Nguyễn Sinh Hùng.
At the meeting, Vice President Nguyễn Thị Doan stressed that the visit by Bulgarian Vice President Margarita Popova played an important role in boosting the relationship between the two countries, especially as it coincided with the 65th anniversary of diplomatic links.
Vice President Popova spoke highly of Vietnam’s achievement during the DOI MOI reform period. She said Bulgaria wanted to see links between the two countries increase.
The two sides agreed to co-operate in various fields.
Later the same day, Popova met with Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng. The PM proposed Bulgaria accelerate collaboration in all fields between the two countries. The Bulgarian Vice President said Bulgaria wanted to enhance co-operation with Vietnam. She also said that Bulgaria had supported Vietnam in multilateral forums and in boosting co-operation with the EU, especially when Bulgaria takes the rotating presidency of the EU during 2016 to 2017. The Bulgarian Ambassador used the occasion to give an Honorary Doctorate Degree to Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng.
Vice President Popova also met with National Assembly Chairman Nguyễn Sinh Hùng. The National Assembly Chairman said the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between the parliaments of the two countries in 2012 had contributed to co-operation. Popova believed that experience-sharing between the two parliamentarians would help promote co-operation between the two legislatures and countries.
