The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has released its 2025 update to Vietnam’s climate change and sea-level rise scenarios, providing more detailed projections for major cities, including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, to support climate risk assessment and adaptation planning.
Under the high-emissions scenario, the number of hot days could increase by more than 50 days by the end of the 21st century, while the number of days with extreme heat could rise by around 20 days.
Compared with the 1995–2014 baseline, average temperatures in central Hanoi could rise by 3.6 to 4.2 degrees Celsius, while Ho Chi Minh City could see an increase of 3.5 to 3.7 degrees. The updated assessment also examines impacts on rice production, public health and infrastructure.
