At the event, the Ministry of Health reviewed its achievements over the past five years and discussed future plans with partners.
Health partners including EU, World Bank, United Nations and other NGOs expressed their appreciation for achievements of the health sector over the past 5 years. These included extending health insurance coverage to 75% of the population by 2015 and completing 100% commune, ward and town health coverage.
However, Vietnamese health sector is facing obstacles. To tackle these challenges, the Ministry of Health has prioritised 9 targets from now until 2020. One main target is to further call for support and strengthen collaboration with international partners. Other targets including improving human resources and reducing overcrowded hospitals attracted the attention of international organisations.
Partners also committed themselves to continuing to support and help Vietnam on the development of a modern and accessible health service in the coming time.
