The early completion of ground clearance is expected to speed up construction of the expressway, he said.
The expressway will be 80.2km long, have four lanes and a designed vehicle speed of 100km per hour. It will stretch across Vân Đồn, Tiên Yên, Đầm Hà, Hải Hà districts and Móng Cái City.
The project has a total investment of over VNĐ11.1 trillion (US$477.3 million).
Last year in March, provincial authorities began site clearance to serve the project with a total land area of about 527ha.
Of the 1,680 households affected by project, as many as 326 households had to relocate to resettlement areas. In addition, 320 tombs were moved.
The total cost for ground clearance was VNĐ1.5 trillion, sourced from the province’s corresponding capital.
The compensation payments for site clearance were done transparently and in accordance with the law, said Hợp.
The expressway project was invested under the public-private-partnership (PPP) and build-operate-transfer (BOT) forms.
The enterprise implementing the project is Vân Đồn Infrastructure Development and Investment Limited Company.
The project will complete the expressway route from Lào Cai-Hà Nội-Hải Phòng to Móng Cái City (Quảng Ninh), to form the longest expressway route in Việt Nam.
The road will connect the northern provinces of Việt Nam with ASEAN member countries and China, and will facilitate regional development.
The expressway will form a "backbone" with a total length of nearly 200km, creating favourable conditions that will attract investment sources.
It will help to promote the border gate region’s economy and tourism development, as well as international trade through the Móng Cái border gate.
The expressway is expected to be put into operation in 2021. — VNS
