HÀ NỘI — Five domestic airlines reported nearly 5,000 delayed or cancelled flights, accounting for 17 per cent of the total operated flights, in the first two months of the year.

The number increased by 4.2 per cent from the previous month and posted a 0.9 per cent year-on-year rise.

According to the Civil Aviation Administration of Việt Nam (CAAV), Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Jetstar Pacific, Bamboo Airways and Việt Nam Air Services Company (VASCO) operated a total of 29,363 flights in the two-month period, up 22.8 per cent from the same period last year.

Of which, Jetstar Pacific had the highest rate of delayed or cancelled flights with 838, accounting for 25.5 per cent of its scheduled routes.

Vietjet took second place with 2,677 delayed or cancelled flights, accounting for 21.5 per cent of its total during the two-month period.

National carrier Vietnam Airlines reported 1,343 delayed or cancelled flights, accounting for 11 per cent of its total, while VASCO had 98 delayed or cancelled flights at 9.2 per cent.

The newly-launched airline Bamboo Airways reported 28 delayed or cancelled flights during the two months, accounting for 5.5 per cent.

The CAAV said there were many reasons for the delays and cancellations, including late arrivals, flight management and operation and the equipment and services at airports.

Other reasons included weather and technical issues, the agency said. — VNS
