HÀ NỘI — Electricity of Việt Nam (EVN) announced that electricity consumption in the north and centre reached a new peak on Tuesday, breaking the record of the previous day, when these regions are experiencing a strong heatwave.
The load capacity in the northern region reached 17,063MW, while the total consumption was almost 358.6 million kWh. Only in one day, the load capacity increased by 398 MW, while the total consumption increased by 16.6 million kWh.
Prior to this heatwave, the north’s electricity consumption reached peak in June 22, with load capacity reached 16,004MW and power consumption at 339 million kWh.
In the central, the load capacity reached 3,128MW and the total energy consumption reached 64.5 million kWh. The peaks for these two figures in 2017 are 3,099MW and 60.9 million kWh, respectively.
The capital city of Hà Nội also witnessed peak electricity consumption on Tuesday, with the load capacity at 4,085MW and the total consumption at 82 million kWh.
The long heatwave led to unusual high electricity consumption, mostly due to the use of cooling systems, causing overload and unstable energy supply in several regions.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, there are two to three heatwaves to come this month. Therefore, EVN calls on people to use electricity safely and economically. — VNS
