CẦN THƠ – The Việt Nam Environment Administration under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment on Tuesday launched a four-storey environmental monitoring station for Cần Thơ and other provinces in the Mekong Delta region.
The nearly 2,000sq.m station located in Cần Thơ City is a complex of offices that includes a system of labs equipped with modern and national standard machines and tools for monitoring.
Hoàng Văn Thức, deputy director of the administration, said the station’s construction began in 2016.
Staff and engineers of the Southern Centre for Environment Monitoring have been trained and operate the station’s equipment.
Võ Tuấn Nhân, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, said the Government in 2016 approved a network for environment monitoring stations throughout the country.
The natural resource and environmental monitoring systems will supply information to investigate and conduct surveys.
These systems will also issue warnings about environmental pollution, Nhân said.
Sofware connecting data from central and local environment monitoring stations is being used in the system.
Nhân has urged local stations to submit reports to the ministry in a timely manner.
Environmental monitoring is especially important in areas with a large amount of waste and waste water, and in residential zones. – VNS
