VTV.vn - The week in response to World Savings Day 2016 was launched at a ceremony in Hanoi on Sunday. The week targets women, children and students, who play a significant role in promoting saving movements.

Addressing the ceremony, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan stressed corruption as the most wasteful, adding that it is imperative to combat corruption and practice thrift. The event helped attendees gain a better understanding of the role of saving in poverty eradication and national economic development through discussions with guests from governmental organisations. At the event, 15,000 savings and financial management guidebooks were handed to women in 63 provinces across the country.

World Savings Day was established in 1924 in Italy. This is the first time Vietnam has implemented activities to support this day.
