The project is the first pumped storage hydropower plant to be constructed in Vietnam and is also one of EVN’s major projects in 2025.
The project has four pump/turbine-generator/motor units, each with a capacity of 300 MW, at a total investment of 21,100 billion VND (826.6 million USD).
The first turbine is expected to be operational in December 2029, with the entire project slated for completion in May 2031.
According to the General Director of Vietnam Electricity Group, Nguyen Anh Tuan, phase 1 of the project was kick-started in late 2019 and was completed in March 2021.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Ninh Thuan Provincial People's Committee Trinh Minh Hoang, stressed that this is an important energy project that will bring many long-term economic, social and environmental benefits to the province, contributing significantly to ensuring national energy security and promoting the transition to a green, sustainable and highly efficient economy.
On this occasion, Vietnam Electricity Group and contractors donated 1 billion VND to the programme to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Ninh Thuan Province.
